Volunteering Opportunities at Survive

Background

Survive, the leading Domestic Abuse organisation in South Gloucestershire, is looking to recruit volunteers to help provide support in crèche sessions and also to help with play sessions in our Refuges.  Our Children and Young People’s service provides crèche sessions in the community, enabling women to attend specialist programmes.  Our sessional play workers run these crèches, and we are looking for additional volunteer support.

Crèche and Childcare Volunteer (female only)* (*Section 7(2) of 1975 Sex Discrimination Act applies.)

Time Commitment

Three hours per week – days vary.  We ask our volunteers to commit for a period of at least a year.

This volunteer role involves:

• Provision of childcare in a community setting, volunteering under the supervision of our Play Coordinator and Prevention Worker
• Taking part in play sessions in our Refuges
• Possibility of combining with Family Session – working with Mums and preschool children in Refuge

We are looking for volunteers who have:

• Good understanding of domestic abuse, its causes and impacts on families
• Experience of being around young children
• Understanding of safeguarding practice
• Knowledge of how to care for children
• Ability to maintain clear boundaries
• Ability to uphold confidentiality
• Ability to be flexible and deal confidently with change

We provide training and reasonable travel expenses and the opportunity to join a friendly, skilled and committed team, to learn new skills and to make a difference in the lives of children and young people.
