survive-tins

We are asking people to support Survive during Domestic Violence Awareness Week 2016 (21st-26th November) by Fundraising for us.

Could you host your own event and help raise vital funds for Survive, as well as awareness of domestic abuse?

You could hold a cake sale, have a dress down day at work or school maybe? Get sponsored to give something up? Hold a wine tasting evening perhaps?

You could host your event at home, at work, at school or in the community!

To request a fundraising pack please email Survive on [email protected] or call us on 0117 961 3065.

A huge thank you to all those came and supported our recent events!

Survive Charity Concert Friday 22nd April 2016

“A heartfelt thank you to the wonderful choirs and to all those who supported us at our Charity Fundraising Concert. We raised a fantastic £1,000 and this money will go directly to support young survivors of domestic abuse. Children and young people are often hidden victims of domestic abuse – unable to fully understand what is happening or to articulate their experiences. Through this money we will be able to offer them the vital specialist support they need so they can move on positively with their lives, not blames themselves and have bright, hope-filled futures. Thank you again.” Helen Chignell, Children and Young People’s Manager

A big thank you to all that came and took part in our Survive Quiz of 2016! We had a fantastic night and raised over £600 for our Children and Young People’s services. A special thank you to our quizmaster Paulina Gillespie from Heart Breakfast Bristol and Somerset, the BAWA centre for hosting us for the evening and to Becky, who chairs our fundraising group, for her hard work in organising this event.

In total these events raised just over £1600 to support our services here at Survive! Without support from people like yourselves, we would not be able to help all those who need it, so thank you once again on behalf of Survive and our service users.

South Gloucestershire Council have been set the task of making savings across their budget, and have an incredibly difficult decision to make.
One option is to remove funding from the support services provided for victims of domestic abuse. This could include three refuges, thesupport line and face to face support.
We are asking the Council to retain these services and they want to hear your views. We strongly urge the Council to keep the funding for all domestic abuse services at the same levels for the following reasons:
  • Since 2010 32 domestic abuse refuges have been closed across the UK.
  • In the last year Survive in South Gloucestershire had 213applications for refuge.
  • Due to limited spaces 174 of these women had to be turned away.
  • In 2014/15, Survive’s support line took 1669 calls, which was a140% increase from the previous year.
  • 754 adults were registered to Survive’s database in 2014/15.
  • 1106 children were registered to Survive’s database in 2014/15.
  • Our Independent Domestic Violence Advisor (IDVA) had a total of 309 High Risk cases last year.
  • In the last 3 years our A&E team has supported 368 victims, 162 of these from South Glos.
  • The Children and Young People’s service at Survive has provided support to 36 parents (female) in refuge and 74 children.
To continue to prevent future homicides we need to maintain, if not increase, the investment in knowledge and specialist services which tackle domestic abuse.
We need to show the future generations of South Gloucestershire that we are not a community to turn the other way, but one which will tackle domestic abuse head on through support, awareness raising and education.
Please sign and share this petition if you agree that funding for domestic abuse services needs to be maintained at their current level.
Thank you for your support.
