At the end of last month we went to visit Gloucester Road WI and were presented with a cheque from the sales of their cookbook. They raised a massive £8000 for Survive! We want to thank everyone involved and all those who supported the project.
Gillian Carson, Sustainability Manager at Survive said:
“This project has exceeded our expectations bringing us both some great publicity and much needed funding to support the recovery of women from domestic abuse. We would like to thank you for all your hard work and for raising such a great amount for Survive. We would not be able to help so many without the support of groups like yourselves. As you know the money will be going towards our Freedom Programme, our group work programme for women who have experienced domestic abuse. It is a very valued part of pathway to recovery and supports women to recognise potential future abusers and recognise the effects of domestic abuse on their children. The programme also supports women to help each other and form a network of support; isolation is often a part of domestic abuse.”
The Freedom programme really does transform lives. Here are some quotes from recent participants:
“I have only been attending this group for 4 weeks, but I already feel an improvement in myself. Knowledge and understanding is power! It’s great to feel safe in a group of women who’ve experienced a similar environment and not feel isolated.”
“Since coming to the group I’ve had more of an understanding of what should be ‘normal’ in a relationship. I was completely oblivious to things that could happen and now I see relationships in a whole new light.”
“This group is fantastic and has really helped me with confidence and esteem issues and has given me courage and strength that I have made the right choice in life and to keep going.”
