happy birthdayOur 40th anniversary is getting closer! We are having a celebration on Wednesday 9th July from 5pm and we are all getting excited about it in the office.

We have secured a lovely venue and there will be nibbles, cake and bubbles. Many people will be participating in the event to tell the story of Survive from our humble beginnings to our current staff team of 25 staff, 10 board members and over 30 volunteers!

Anna Smith, Chief Executive at Survive said:

“It represents huge progress in our combined approach to supporting people to cope and recover from their experiences of domestic abuse that Survive is celebrating 40 years of service. We were set up by volunteers in response to women dying at the hands of their partners and former partners, so that we could provide women and children with a refuge from their abusive relationship. We now have specialist services for those at high risk, group work for women recovering from their experiences, excellent partnerships with housing, schools, the police, social care and a variety of specialist agencies and outreach work in community centres and Southmead hospital. Survive has doubled in size in the last five years. Our extensive work with children supports them when they have witnessed domestic abuse to reduce self blame and understand their experiences. Our representation on a number of forums means that we present the needs of service users directly to funders, often through supporting the attendance of service users to have a voice at these meetings. New projects in schools and Southmead hospital are now supporting us to work preventatively and break the cycle of abuse. We are truly supporting people to not only cope with, but to recover from their experiences in the long term.”

There are limited spaces left, but if you would like to come, please email us and request a place on [email protected]
